Department of Railway Vehicle System Engineering

Thank you for visiting the Department of Rail Vehicle System Engineering, Department of Rail Engineering, Korea Transportation University of Transportation. The department of railway vehicle systems engineering has 115 years of history with the university of railways, succeeding the railway school in 1905. Gyeongseong Railway School in 1919, Korea Railroad School in 1949, Korea Railroad University in 1999, and Korea Transportation University in 2012 have contributed greatly to the development of Korean railways in a long history.

Following the teachings of the predecessors, many younger students are still focusing on education and research activities at domestic and foreign research institutes and universities as well as traditional areas of Korean railways such as Korea Railroad Corporation and Seoul Transportation Corporation.

Graduates of our department play an important role in the railway industry by learning and operating the characteristics and latest technologies of various fast-paced and high-performance railway vehicle systems.

I hope you will be reborn as a person who contributes to the development of the country with a new creative spirit and global mind here, a living witness of the history of railway vehicles.

Introduction

The railway vehicle industry pursues high speed, high performance, and safety, and is emerging as a driving force for national growth engines. The railway vehicle system major aims to introduce high-speed, smart next-generation railway vehicles and foster self-directed talent in preparation for the global era. Based on creative thinking, we want to understand vehicle structures and systems and cultivate key talents who can create useful value in the railway vehicle field with expertise and technologies such as new technologies, driving characteristics, structural analysis, and design. Since its establishment as a railway machinery department in 1979, it has been reorganized into a railway vehicle system major in 1983, a railway vehicle system engineering department in 2012, and a graduate school has established a master's course in 2015. Currently, about 1,000 alumni have been produced, and the Korea Railroad Corporation, Korea Railroad Facilities Corporation, eight urban railway corporations, government officials, and public corporations are working positively and passionately for the development of the country and railways.
