The favorite of modern transportation is the railroad. In the case of Korea, the existing railways, subways, light rail, and high-speed railways KTX have been opened and operated, making the railways more convenient for our individual daily lives.
Subways, light rail, high-speed rail, and new high-tech railway systems all use electric energy as the basic power. In addition, modern railway systems, such as the railway signal control system, which is the invisible brain of the railway system, and the railway information and communication system to improve the efficiency of railway operation, are a collection of electrical, electronic, and communication technologies.
In terms of improving the performance of the railway system and improving the management of the railway, the proportion of the field of electrical, electronic, and communication technology is gradually increasing, and there is an urgent need for the development and research of original and base technologies and the cultivation of high-quality professionals.
The Department of Railway Electrical and Information Engineering in Korea National University of Transportation (KNUT) researches and educates electrical, electronic, and communication technologies of railway systems, such as electric power systems that supply electric power to railways, power conversion systems to supply suitable power to various railway vehicles, signal control systems that control trains safely and efficiently, and information and communication technologies of railway systems.
Seniors who graduated from the Department of Railway Electrical and Information Engineering are playing a leading role in the fields of electric power, power electronics, railway signaling, and information and communication in various government ministries, Korea Railroad Corporation, Korea Railroad Facilities Corporation, specialized graduate schools, urban railway corporations of local governments, and railroad-related industries.
The faculty of the Department of Railway Electrical and Information Engineering in KNUT are always ready to welcome you to lead the railway industry with a new heart and enthusiasm.
We welcome all of you who have hope and passion to grow as a leader in electric railways in the 21st century.
Jae-Bum Lee, Head Professor, Department of Railway Electrical and Information Engineering.
