□주요 연구 분야
Thermosetting Polymers and Their Toughening. Reaction mechanisms, kinetics, structure and properties of thermosetting polymers are being studied. The model thermosetting polymers used are pure epoxy resin and the modified epoxy resin with thermoplastic polysulfones. Based on the reaction mechanisms observed from the experimental works a kinetic model which can be used to estimate the structure and properties from the degree of cure was derived.
Polymer Blends of Epoxy Resin/Polyurethane. The low temperature characteristics of epoxy resin have been improved dramatically by blending with polyurethane. Two resins were cured with a common co-curing agent, diaminodiphenyl methane(DDM), and so could form a not phase separated one cross-linked network.
Epoxy/PPO Resin System. As a matrix material of the laminate for electrical insulation application such as printed circuit board(PCB) epoxy resin is being modified by using polyphenylene oxide(PPO) which has an excellent electrical insulation characteristics. The dielectric properties of pure and the modified epoxy resin, as an indicator for electrical insulation characteristic, have been studied.
Radiation Cure. The radiation, especially electron beam(EB) is being used for the cure of epoxy resins. The thermal and mechanical properties of EB cured epoxy resins were compared to those of thermally cured ones. For thermal curing Lewis acid was used as a thermal initiator instead of using curing agent to obtain a comparative cross-linked network as in EB curing
Thermoplastic Elastomers(TPE). Blends of SBS and HIPS are prepared and investigated. The hardness and mechanical properties of the blend are related to the proportion of soft and hard segment of SBS. The developed TPE blend had enough properties to replace existing thermosetting rubber, PVC and PU which associate problems with recycling and incineration.
